How to Spell Check in Google Sheets
For the purpose of this demonstration an example data set was created. Click here to access the spreadsheet and follow along at home.
1. Select “Tools” from the file menu followed by “Spelling” and click “Spell check”
From the file menu at the top of the display click Tools, from the menu that shows click or hover over Spelling. A side menu will appear, click Spell check from this menu.
2. Check the spelling suggestions and correct accordingly
The spelling checker tool will appear on the right hand side of the display, any potential spelling errors will display one by one with the options to Change, Ignore or Add to dictionary.
For obscure names, places or words that are not recognized by the spelling checker tool we can add these to the dictionary so they are not shown as a potential error in future.
In our example we can see the tool has detected that California is spelt incorrectly in our data. The tool shows this and the suggested correct spelling. We will click Change to apply the correction,
You can choose to correct individually or apply to all instances of the specific spelling error by selecting the downward arrow next to the option and selecting Change all. You can also choose to Ignore all by clicking the downward arrow next to Ignore.
3. The spelling changes have now been made, click the x to close the spelling tool
The spelling errors are corrected or ignored in real time, once finished close the spelling checker tool by clicking the x on the top right of the tool. The spelling changes have been completed.
In our example we can see that all previous spelling errors have been changed and the correct spellings now display.
