Adding a row is a great way to insert data. In this article we will show you how to add a row in Google Sheets in just a few simple steps.

We will now demonstrate the easiest method to insert a row in Google Sheets.

For this demonstration an example sheet was used. Click here to access the sample sheet and follow along at home.

Step 1: Select the Cell Below the New Row Destination

Click on any cell in the row below the destination for the new row.

In our example we will add a new row between rows 5 and 6. We can select any cell in row 6 as we are going to add the new row above.

Step 2: Right Click and Select Insert 1 row above

With your cell selected right click, from the displayed menu select Insert 1 row above

Alternatively from the top-toolbar select Insert followed by Rows. From the side menu you now have the option to Insert 1 row above. You can also use this menu to insert a row below. For this example we will choose to insert a row above our selection.

Step 3: See the Results

A row is added to the data set above the initial cell selection.
