How to Use the Timeline Template in Google Sheets

Follow the steps below to use our timeline template in Google Sheets. 

1. Enter the Starting Date for the Project in January

Find the cell under "JANUARY" and type in the date of the first Monday. The template updates the rest of the dates for you.

2. Customize Project Week Numbers to Match Your Timeline

If your project starts or ends outside of the template's default weeks, change the "PROJECT WEEK" numbers to fit your timeline.

3. Fill in Project Phases and Key Activities on the Timeline

Write down the main stages of your project. Under each phase, list the key tasks or milestones. This helps you see what you need to do and when.

4. Color Code Phases and Merge Cells for Duration Visualization

Color code different project phases.

Merge cells to show how long each task will take. This makes your timeline easier to read.

5. Regularly Update the Timeline to Reflect Project Progress

Keep your timeline current. As you work on the project, change the timeline to show what's done and what's next. This keeps everyone informed.

6. Collaboratively Review and Adjust the Timeline with Your Team

Share your timeline with teammates. Look at it together often to make sure it still fits the project's needs. Adjust as necessary.
