Release Scores on Google Forms

Quiz scores on Google Forms can be released in two methods : immediately after each submission or later and after manual review. We will discuss how to manage each methods in the following sections.

Method 1: Release Scores Immediately After Each Submission

Here’s how you can release the scores right away after a submission.

1. Open Your Google Form and Access Settings

With your Google Form already open, click on the “Settings” tab at the top of the form. This tab allows you to adjust how and when scores will be released.

2. Turn On Quiz Mode in the Settings

In the settings menu, navigate to the "Quizzes" tab. Enable "Make this a quiz". This will turn your form into a quiz, allowing it to automatically grade responses and release scores.

3. Set Point Values for Each Question

After enabling quiz mode, go to each question in your form and assign a specific point value. By default, each question’s score is set to 0, so you must manually enter the desired points for each question.

4. Set Scores to Be Released Immediately After Submission

In the "Release grades" section under the "Quizzes" tab, select the option for "Immediately after each submission". This will ensure that participants see their scores as soon as they submit the form, either on the confirmation page or via email.

Method 2: Release Scores Later, After Manual Review

Below are the steps to release scores after reviewing and manually adjusting responses.

1. Open Your Google Form and Access Settings

With your Google Form already open, click on the “Settings” tab at the top of the form. This tab allows you to adjust how and when scores will be released.

2. Enable Quiz Mode to Allow Grading and Score Release

In the settings menu, go to the "Quizzes" tab and enable "Make this a quiz". This feature must be on to allow manual review and score release later.

3. Set Point Values for Each Question

After turning on quiz mode, review each question in the form. Manually assign point values to each question as they default to 0. This ensures that the grading reflects your intended score structure.

4. Choose to Release Scores Manually After Reviewing Submissions

In the "Release grade" section, select "Later, after manual review". This allows you to review each submission before releasing scores. You will release scores one by one after manually checking each response.

5. Go to the Responses Tab to View Submitted Forms

After participants have submitted their responses, click on the "Responses" tab at the top of the form editor. This tab shows all responses, and you can view each one individually.

6. Click the "Individual" Tab to Review Each Response

Inside the "Responses" tab, click on the "Individual" sub-tab. Here, you will see responses one by one. Start by reviewing the first participant's submission. Check the answers, and review the automatically assigned scores.

7. Manually Adjust Scores for Each Question if Needed, Then Save

Adjusting scores may be necessary for open-ended questions. If needed, click on the question in the participant's response and enter the correct point value. After adjustment, click “Save” in the prompted message to confirm the changes.

8. Move to the Next Participant and Review All Responses

After reviewing and adjusting the first participant's response, click the side arrow button at the top to move to the next submission. Continue reviewing, adjusting scores, and adding feedback as needed for each participant until all responses are reviewed.

9. Click the Release Score Button

Once you've reviewed all submissions, click the "Release score" button located at the top of the "Responses" tab. This opens a pop-up where you can choose how to release the scores.

10. Select All Participants for Score Release

In the pop-up, check the box labeled "All respondents" to release scores to everyone who submitted the form.

11. Add an Optional Message and Finalize Score Release

You can write an optional message to accompany the release. Once ready, click the "Send emails and release" button to notify all participants of their scores.

12. Release Scores for Individual Participants or Groups (Optional)

If you prefer to release scores for individual participants or a small group, uncheck "All respondents" in the pop-up window. Select the email addresses of the specific individuals or groups you want to send the scores to. After selecting, click "Send emails and release" to finalize the process.
