1. Click on Your Desired Cell for the Footnote

Click on the cell where you want to add a footnote.

2. Open the Cell's Context Menu and Select "Insert note"

Right-click on the selected cell to open the context menu. From the context menu, select "Insert note."

3. Type Your Footnote in the Note Box

Type your footnote information into the pop-up note box. Press Enter or click away from the box to save it.

How to Insert Footnotes in Google Sheets Using Comments

Follow the steps below to insert footnotes in Google Sheets using comments. 

1. Choose the Cell for Your Comment Footnote

Click on the cell where you want to add a footnote comment.

2. Insert a Comment via Right-Click or Toolbar

Right-click on the cell and choose "Comment" or use the comment icon in the Sheets toolbar.

3. Enter Your Footnote as a Comment

In the comment box, type your footnote information. Click "Comment" to post it.

Follow the steps below to insert footnotes in Google Sheets by inserting links. 

1. Select the Cell to Contain the Hyperlink

Click on the cell where you want to insert a link.

2. Use "Insert" Menu or Ctrl+K to Open Link Dialog

Right-click on the cell and choose "Insert link".

3. Paste or Type the URL in the Link Dialog

In the dialog box, paste or type the URL you want to link to. Alternatively, search for and select a document in Google Drive. Click "Apply" to insert the link.
